15th Annual 4th Grade Water Festival

15th Annual 4th Grade Water Festival
Hailey Borden

Gilbert Public Schools 4th graders, Arizona Project WET, and the Town of Gilbert came together for the 15th annual Water Festival this February! During the two-day festival, students are taught how to think like scientists through hands-on activities with a focus on how to conserve water and why it’s so important in the desert.

The Water Festival immerses fourth-graders and teachers in an educational field trip to increase knowledge about our water resources, water conservation, and careers in science, technology, engineering, and math.

Project WET provides interactive water education at the festival, featuring hands-on activities designed to enhance students' understanding of water-related concepts, including a water conservation relay race, groundwater extraction simulations, watershed modeling, and a water cycle bracelet-making exercise.

After the festival, students take the learning back to the classroom, continuing to learn about water conservation and the water cycle. Students will also assess their own water footprint.

This annual two-day event is supported by the Town of Gilbert, as well as volunteers from the Town and from GPS high schools.
